The role:
Our client publishes the official magazine of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. The institute has over 30,000 members, based mainly in the UK but also overseas, and is one of the world's foremost bodies for purchasing and supply management professionals. The magazine aims to keep the profession, and others interested in purchasing and supply issues, up to date with the latest developments and thinking, and provides a forum for topical debate. The magazine is published fortnightly and has a total readership of over 50,000 an issue.

Working with, and taking direction from, the chief sub-editor, the postholder will copy edit a wide variety of articles; write headlines, captions and standfirsts; lay out some pages in QuarkXPress (eg, news) and generate graphs/charts using Illustrator, all to fortnightly deadlines. You will be expected to liaise with contributors, internal and external, to ensure a high standard of copy accuracy across the magazine. The postholder will also get the opportunity to help to compile the web edition as and when required and contribute ideas for developing the magazine and web edition.

Requirements:
We are looking for someone with a minimum of two years experience preferably in business or trade magazines and a first-class command of English (grammar, punctuation and spelling) Essential skills include:
  • editorial (editing, sub editing, proofreading, housestyling)
  • experience of using QuarkXPress and Illustrator
  • grace under pressure and working to tight deadlines
  • speed and accuracy with attention to detail
  • strong interpersonal skills are a prerequisite, together with a team player mindset and a flexible, enthusiastic approach to work
